Tracking usage of hardware components such as disk drives and servers is tedious and seldom done properly. When we need to figure out the story of a server (what went in, what failed), our memory is not enough. The logstory tool is an automated solution to maintain an inventory of your hardware.
logstory scan linux servers and maintain an inventory of what was found. The inventory includes the date a component was first seen and the date it was last seen (or a simple - if the component is still installed).
Here is the list of monitored components. For all components, we have serial number, manufacturer, model etc...

Packages for centos 6.5 64 bits may be found here (compiled by me). You need linuxconf-lib and logstory.
